Ambush Effect & THORO's The Jump Start Open Mic (Review)

This is a review for Ambush Effect & THORO's open mic in March 2021. In March, Ambush Effect and Thoro collaborated for The Jump Start Open Mic. Walking in, the room illuminated with neon lights. Subsequently, the energy that permeated the atmosphere was quite infectious. Everyone exchanged the good vibes with one another, cheering on those who took the stage.

The Come Up "Experience" (Review)

On July 30th, The Come Up "Experience" came in with a big bang. The building, adorned with B&W decor, was a creative sanctuary for both the press and musicians. In this space, good vibes permeated through each corner. DJ Boof was in charge of the spins and livened the scene with various hit singles. The Come Up Shows creator, Casey Delvalle, donned a captivating black tutu topped with a leather camisole top. As soon as someone stepped foot in the atmosphere, she made them feel right at home.

O.H.T.F x G.M.M Concert

O.H.T.F and G.M.M’s concert had an exuberant crowd, to say the least. From a distance, people showed off their best dance moves, formed friendships, and created memories with those that came with them to the show. Granted that the curator’s event was a lituation, O.H.T.F presented a table that served nothing but the best (and pocket-friendly) beverages. They also brought out inspirational and decorative trinkets, some of which followed the hashtag, #BlackLivesMatter, with earnest. But once the host, Lex Milan, went on stage, everyone locked in, took a seat, and kept their ears open. It was showtime.

P.Dot’s Ratchett Release Part 2

P.Dot’s Rachett Release Pt. 2 party offered an atmosphere that everyone could vibe in. From the jump, sparks were flying between all walks of life. This event was to celebrate the release of P.Dot’s album The Separation. At a standpoint, I saw others catching the groove, rapping in-sync to P.Dot’s songs, and bobbing their heads to new artists that stepped on stage. But what struck out most was the high energy shared between performers, creatives, and fans. They anonymously extended their hearts out, proving that unification is real. Often, the crowds would huddle to speak on how to advance in their careers as well. Besides this, P.Dot’s Rachett Release Pt. 2 had tables for vendors. Since he’s one who loves giving back, P.Dot had lines of independently owned companies sell their product. P.Dot also kept in mind that the event could work up appetites. And so, he weighed in on food that would comfort the soul. With this in mind, one can presume that P.Dot turned this…

The RAW Showcase

The RAW Showcase lived up to its name. Like its tagline states, everybody came to vibe. From a mile radius, friendships were formed, people were singing from the top of their lungs (the old and new bops), and everyone was anticipating to see the “R.eal A.uthentic W.itty” artists do their thing. Those who stepped onstage were S.B, Bindi Liebowitz, Sunliight, Kory Hiii, and Zeke Marlee (who, unfortunately, I missed speaking to.) The show was ran by Vision Society, Najee Lucky and J. Shider. Stepping into the atmosphere, I felt genuine connections. The lighting made the room setting intimate and many were allowed to interact with the artist performing. Those onstage shared common ground. All considered theirselves artist and had an undying passion for music. Their music stood for something, held a message and didn’t lead way to gate-drugs or violence. Some spoke on a personal level, dashing some relatability when telling what they’ve seen or heard. Overrall, everyone came…

Soul Food: The Fine Arts - Sugar Shacks

With open arms, Soul Food: The Fine Arts took in all walks of life and allowed passionate creatives to express theirselves freely. Beyond a non-existent canvas, souls were captivated by the performer’s artistic flair. Through the means of all-around awareness, relatability and just having fun — Soul Food: The Fine Arts created a settling ambience. But really, it was everyone involved who made this event worthwhile. It was hard to not take notice of the musician and poet’s way with words. In the hands of urgency, they reeled out inner thoughts, doubts even fears. Other times, they would lend a hand (with precaution). Still, everyone was there to simply enjoy the arts. Sparks flied, friendships rekindled and networks formulated in a smooth manner.

JUNGLE BASH ‘19 - DISCIPLE MUSIC

If you’re a millennial or a member of Gen Z, one concept I’m sure you’re familiar with is “FOMO” and if you weren’t at Jungle Bash ‘19 I fear that, you missed out.

Dominion: 1st Women’s Annual Empowerment Symposium

Women are conquering the world. And if it weren’t true, Beyoncé wouldn’t have said so. It’s groundbreaking to see that so many are calling the shots. Still it comes as no surprise. Women worldwide are breaking gender roles through the means of entrepreneurship and courage. All thanks to their secret language. Though they are resilient by nature, there’s just something about them using a corespondent voice to change how things are done. Instead of sticking to the status quo, they are more opinionated and strong-willed in order to make inequality vanish. Luckily enough, Dominion: 1st Women’s Annual lays down as an example. Although each panelist comes from a different background, they all share commonality on a range of topics. Often they’d use flower power unconsciously. But the real emotion was heard when they began to speak about their passions & opinion toward certain topics. When it came to success most said its all about being your own support then on the…

UNDERGROUND CONCERT SERIES

To define the Underground Concerts Series as just an “event” would be an understatement. In fact for the last 4 years, it has seperated itself as a whole from the rest because of the commonality the artist & crowds share. Still, its biggest distinction is that everyone brings something different to the table. They fully believe that support goes a long way & the proof is in the pudding when you’re on the outside, looking in. The atmosphere screams “underground.” From it’s subway inspired sign, to the lighting and close space – it hypes one up & assures that the artist performing are the future. Every artist, even poet leaves you in awe. It’s very similar to those you see on the side when hopping on the Metro, straight admirable. Because no matter what walk of life appears, they will always leave impressed and a bit more inspired. The UGCS shows that no matter what, the talent will always be surreal. But most importantly, everyone is always welcome to have a…

BROOKLYN UNITY FEST 2019

There is strength in numbers and the Brooklyn Unity Fest went ahead to prove that theory in their 8th annual event. If someone were to question “Where Brooklyn at?” the proof would be front and center. Ultimately the Brooklyn Unity Fest gave back to its community in a major way!
